Spur(s) of the Moment
Friday, February 15th, 2008I am officially suffering from plantar fasciitis.
…For the past months, my heels are so painful that it makes me just want to sh*t in my pants! And the worst thing is, it’s getting in the way of my pagiging lakwatchera. All day long, from the moment I wake up, there is a constant pain in my every step that I just don’t feel like going out anymore.
…In the past, I would look forward and actually enjoy a day of going to different places, jalan-jalan as they say here. But now, I just want to curl up on my favorite chair and spend the whole day being a couch potatie. And if ever I do make gala with friends, in less than one hour, I would be SIMANG the rest of the day because of the pain in my heel.
…I have free access to the gym in our office building but I don’t want to go there because just thinking about the pain I will feel after going on the treadmill gives me migraines… On really bad days, I have to ask Tutuy to "get this, get that, do this, do that" because it’s so painful for me to go around the house to do the chores (buti na lang superman tong si Tutuy! I just LOVE LOVE LOVE him!). (more…)
Kendz (and why I will always love weddings)
Tuesday, January 29th, 2008Candy (or Kendz to most people) and Lui got married last Sunday. Judging from Threelogy’s amazing onsite video, it looks like it’s one of the most beautiful weddings that I’ve ever seen (and watched).
Kendz is my co-w@w and co-w@wsg member. She’s very active in the w@w community. She is one of those brides who started her preps early. She has documented almost every step of their wedding preparations. And she’s so nice to her suppliers. Well, she was able to assemble a dream team that most brides would want.
Aside from always remembering her as being kaladkarin (read: she’s always game for any lakad/EB/etc!), she would always be, for me, the happiest and most involved (but never a Bridezilla ha) bride-to-be (and now, bride). Being in touch with her during her wedding preps (even up to the time that she’s in Manila na), up to the her last night as a bachelorette, until her wedding night (like just right after she took a shower-in preparation for her and Lui’s first night as husband and wife-naks! haha)–it was like getting married all over again. Grabe talaga to si Kendz sa preps nya. And when she texted me after her wedding, I knew instantly that it was a big big success.
Kendz will always be a perfect reminder for me of how magical weddings can be. Not just the wedding, but also the highs and lows of preparing for it. That no matter how big or small your wedding is, what matters most is how important this day is to you and the man waiting for you down the aisle. Everytime I see friends, or even strangers, getting married and as happy as Kendz was during her wedding, I will never get tired of all these getting-hitched-hoolahs. It is one of the most beautiful moments a person could have in his entire life. And I’m just so happy I got to have my own share of it, my own walk to remember, like what I always say. (more…)

Miracles
Wednesday, January 9th, 2008A few nights back, you asked me why I came to
“To find a job,” I answered. That was only half the truth, because whether I verbally admit it or not, this trip was my way of escaping – the pain, the lies, my fears, my past and even my present.
To say that I was badly bruised from my first real brush with love would be an understatement of gigantic proportions. I entered that relationship wide-eyed with wonder, mesmerized by each touch, convinced by each promise spoken and brimming with (more…)
Holidays ‘07
Monday, January 7th, 2008In the past few years, I seem to have developed a certain pattern–I alternate spending Christmas/New Year here in Singapore and in Manila.
This year, I wasn't able to spend it Manila. I just started with my new job and I couldn't take a long leave of absence.
So it was a typical Holiday Season in Singapore.
Hubby and I, together with our housemates and some guests, (more…)
No Shortcut
One of my most favorite shortcut keys, if you can call it that, is Ctrl+F. Everyday, I have to face my PC. And I am not a person with a long line of patience. So with this shortcut, it makes everyday life easy, at least, when it comes to finding data. In my line of work, do you honestly think I have memorized all those Tax Regulations and Acts that I'm supposed to use? I am not a tax auditor or a tax lawyer! But there's always Ctrl+F to help me.
Wouldn't it be great if we can have a Ctrl+F in our lives…

2007: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Saturday, January 5th, 2008The Good:
- finally resigned from my (previous) job
- got a new (and better) job
- moved to the city
- got good housemates
- hubby got a promotion
- discovered some really nice people at w@w-sg
- got our Nikkon D40 (our baby)
- my sister finishes her school
- my other sister has a more peaceful family life
- blogging world and blogger friends (click here)
- more of my friends getting married (or some of them at least/finally getting a love life!)
- new haircut
- still surving my buhaySG
The Bad:
- wasn't able to go back to Manila this year
- discovered there were really some people stabbing my back
- moved out of a flat that we really really loved
- being far from Nana
- Philippine economy still developing at a slow pace
- bills, bills and more bills!
The Ugly:
- our previous flat-owner lying to us
- office politics
- my rollercoaster relationship with certain people
- no major holiday vacation this year
- countless false alarms
- major weight gain hehe

Hmm.. not bad, after all. I was kind of afraid to make this list because I might discover that the The Bad would outnumber The Good. Frankly speaking, this year wasn't the best year for me. This year was a real test for me–a test of patience, integrity and survival skills. If I was able to survive this year, then I'm sure the subsequent years will be easier. Like the overused cliche goes: If it doesn't kill you, it will only make you stronger.
I just hope, pray and will work my freaking ass out that things will be better and brighter this 2008.
Testing…testing…
Wednesday, December 26th, 2007CLICK on the photo to see the rest…The week we bought her, it was raining non-stop! Excited pa naman kami to go around and test our little baby. So our first shots were taken at home…
Then last Thursday, it was Hari Raya Raji so it was a Public Holiday. Kendz and I headed to Orchard to take some photos (playtime ni Nikki and Eos). I'll post some of those pics next time. Meanwhile, let me share lang our first few shots using baby Nikki. Hopefully, I resized it low enough for faster loading.
Singapore’s Countdown to 2008
Tuesday, December 25th, 2007I am still stuffed with all the noche buena food I ate last night! Whew! I will post photos next time…
Now I'm thinking: Where should I spend my new year countdown this year? In my almost four-year stay here in Singapore, I have developed an alternating pattern of spending the holidays in Manila and here. There is the ever-present theory that the countdown fever only lasts for two minutes here, as compared to other cities in the world where the celebration fever can last til the wee hours of the morning. Well, those on the SG clubbing scene is exempted from this theory, of course.
So here's a rundown of my choices for the 2008 countdown. How about you, where will you be as you welcome the year 2008?

Few days before Christmas
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007Now that I’ve accepted the fact that only a miracle can make me fly over to Manila to spend my Christmas with my family, I get this sickening feeling in my stomach everytime I go to Orchard Road. Standing amidst people doing their holiday shopping makes me even more lonely. The lowest of all lows would be today, when I was walking along the pedestrian tunnel of Scotts Road. There was a string quartet playing Christmas carols! And though they are English songs and not the ever famous Ang Pasko Ay Sumapit, I still felt so homesick! In a movie-like trance, the ghost of Christmas Past appeared before me, making me remember those Christmas activities when I was still back home.

… attending endless Christmas parties… gift-giving AND gift-cramming… tiangge, tiangge and more tiangges (Greenhills, BF Ruins, Alabang, etc)… setting up your home’s Christmas tree (in our family’s case, we would have a Belen too)… going to a friend’s place after noche buena to drink the night away… wish lists sa office… exchange gifts and monito-monitas… office christmas parties, sometime with matching dance or song presentation hahaha…
Over the past years, I (unintentionally) alternated spending the holidays here and in Manila. One time, my flight was Christmas day itself. It was such a nice feeling to be going home on Christmas day! For us Pinoys, Christmas means coming home and being with your family, celebrating inspite of life’s hardships.
Here, they also have their gift-giving. Actually, sometimes it seems that it’s all what Christmas is supposed to be for them. Sometimes I wonder if they know that Christmas is the day we celebrate Jesus Christ’s birth, that it’s not only the “holiday of Christians”. Even non-Catholics here practice the tradition of gift-giving, which I find amusing and thoughtful at the same time. And the most common gift is… chocolates!!! And yes, they do have their own version of “Simbang Gabi”. Most Cathollic churches here, especially those that are frequented by Pinoys, have mass starting on the 15th of December at 8pm. The sad part is, we have work on the 24th of December. Luckily, I get to work only half-day on Christmas Eve. Unlike back home, we start preparing for Christmas Eve dinner as early as the 23rd.

Merry Christmas, y’all!!!
