F1…finally!

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

"The 2008 FORMULA 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix is slated to debut on 28 September 2008 on a street circuit of public roads around the Marina Bay area. Already billed by many as one of the most dramatic and atmospheric races on the calendar, the proposed 5.067km long street circuit offers multiple overtaking opportunities as well as fast and challenging turns.

The 2008 FORMULA 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix will be first street race in Asia and is one of three races in the 2008 F1 calendar to run anticlockwise. Subject to final safety clearances, the race will be the first held at night in F1 history."

The tickets for the Singapore GP only became available to the public (read: mere mortals) last Wednesday. And Jun was able to buy his tickets! (Hindi ako sasama. Not my thing.) Finally, his dream of watching an F1 race will be fulfilled! He will be going with Joel.

Before buying, he asked me pa with his usual paawa face if he can go and watch F1 with Joel. As if naman it would make a difference if I say no. Ha! In fairness to him, he told me to go with them. But I’m just not into it. I mean, if it’s just one race, maybe I can tahan it. But three races? On three separate days? Nah thanks!

Jun and Joel will be seated at the Lower Bay Grandstand. At first, they got the Upper Bay seats cuz the F1 staff said that’s the onlky one available. Good thing we checked the net again today and found out that there were still seats. So we were able to change our (theirs pala) tickets. Turns out that on the first day, a lot of people reserved seats then ended up not continuing with the purchase.

Today, we discovered that tripods and even monopods are not allowed. And your camera’s focal length should be 200mm max. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Jun, being an F1 fanatic that he is, will be in cloud nine during these three days of glorious bliss (for him, not for me). I’m so happy for him. He’s like a kid who was given his reward for being a good boy.
