A Hairy Story

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

I love my hair. And I am proud of it. Di nga ako sexy or flawless, pero maganda naman ang buhok ko. That's why one of my hatest moments is coming out of a salon with a haircut that I am not satisfied with.

I've been wanting to get a haircut for a long time now. The last haircut I had was after the wedding. It was an impulsive decision I made while travelling from Manaoag, a few days after our wedding. We were in Tarlac Highway, then we stopped in this small shopping complex. I saw the "James Cooper" signage, and thought: Since we're waiting for Anven, why not I get a haircut. I had the stylist cut off at least five inches of my hair. woohoo! finally! I liked it. When I got back to Singapore, I received a lot of compliments. Kaya lang, it grew so fast! I didn't have time to really appreciate it.

So after 11 months and another 5 or six inches of hair, I went for a haircut. I wanted it to be a bit bob-like, something like an angled bob that is graduated at the back of my head with long, textured front layers. Parang ganito:

 or

Wala akong paki na round ang face ko kasi I don't believe that only heart-shaped or oval faces have the right to sport short hair (This goes with my belief against "kung maputi ka e maganda ka"). So anyhoo, after work, I went to Jantzen at Tiong Bahru Plaza. I used to go to Jantzen's branch at CCK, but since taga TB na kami e dun nalng ako sa TB Plaza pumunta.

Honestly, I am not confident with local hairstylists here. Most of the time that I have my hair cut here, I end up looking like an Anime character. Before going to Jantzen, Jun and I even dropped by Lucky Plaza to check out the Pinoy manggugupits there. I heard a lot of raves kasi na maraming magagaling na Pinoy na manggugupit dun sa mga salon sa LP. But since I noticed na puro guys ang nagpapagupit e mejo natakot ako hehe. So off we go to Jantzen's.

I thought, anyway, I have a photo and I can describe clearly what I want. I saw certain "signs" na this branch of Jantzen's is not at par as their branch in CCK. For one thing, I wasn't satisfied when they washed my hair…So anyway, I told the manggugupit what I want, showed her a photo, etc. She was so confident na she can do it. I wasn't hoping that I'll have the exact hairstyle in the pic, but I at least expect it to be almost the same.

To make a long story short, although my hair is still in its place, it's definitely NOT what I wanted. And I kept telling her to cut off in this so and so place, cuz she's really not getting it right. I just had to get out of there bago masira tuluyan ang buhok ko. Hay, anyway, tomorrow or in the weekend, I have to go to another salon to have this remedied. Baka ipa-todo short hair ko na lng.

How does my hair look? Ayoko nga magpost ng pic! Just imagine me as Princess Sara.

ANG LABO MEHN! ang layo ha! Bad trip!

So I have to wake up early tomorrow to have enough time to style my hair so I won't look like Camille Prats as Sara, Ang Munting Prinsesa.

Funny how I read this hairy post right after watching the finals of “Shear Genius” on the telly - talk about coincidence!
Anyhoo, I can totally relate on how a woman’s hairstyle can make or break her. Sabi ko nga sa asawa ko, sobrang “feeling pretty” ako everytime I come from my “suking” salon in Pinas. In fact, I’m so scared to have anyone touch my hair here that I literally wait until we go on home leave before getting my long-awaited styling, color and cut. Five days na lang and wish come true na ako - am off to my salon appointment! Yahoo! :D
